Sean Hembrick Pre- Philosophy Statement When thinking about my personal and professional philosophies of education I have to think of the various students I have worked with in the past. Each of my students was unique. It was my job to provide them with a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which they could grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. While working with my students it was my desire to help them meet their fullest potential in achieving their dreams while supporting them. For me, education is about growth. Not only the growth in one’s mind but the growth in one’s overall individuality. Abraham Lincoln once said, “Upon the subject of education…I can only say that I view it as the most important subject which we as a people can be engaged in.” I could not agree more with this statement. I have made it my mission to help students acquire these resources no matter their socioeconomic situation. As a first-generation student I had to push myself to learn how to deal with time management, planning, and navigating through my college career. Working with my students I have developed a sentimental yet powerful sense of pride about education. I know that working with students is a task that is not to be taken lightly. It is full of challenges, frustrations, and responsibilities. However, from my professional standpoint, it is an important task that is also full of excitement, wonder, and joy.
