Engagement in one’s education at all academic levels is essential to educational success. When students are actively engaged in instruction, they are able to retain more knowledge and bridge connections to prior knowledge (Glaser, 1984). This engagement leads to achievement across the curriculum. Since active engagement in paramount, teacher and curriculum leaders need to keep students various learning styles in mind when designing instruction and curriculum scopes. Parkay, Anctil, and Hass (2014) stated, “Because there are so many differences among learners, various learning theories can guide curriculum leaders as they address questions” (p.5) in curriculum construction. When students are interested in the content, they can then know the information that is being taught to them. Proponents of progressive education echo these themes throughout their theory. Active participation, addressing student interests, student input into curriculum, and real world practice are all underlying theme of progressive education (Parkay, Anctil, and Hass, 2014, p. 31). These themes when employed in a classroom allow for students to know the content being taught and also be to apply this content to really world situations and or other instruction. When a student is done with their education, all educators would desire for them to be whatever they want. Educators should rejoice in student choice and allowing them to find something they can passionate about for their career.
