1) How can I plan rigorous instructional materials and appropriate assessments?
At the beginning of the unit, my students complete a pre-assessment so that I can understand their instructional deficits and to gauge an understanding of the areas in which they have mastered. Additionally, within my individual lessons, I often incorporate extension activities that push my high-performing students to connect the lesson/activity to the real world.

2) How do I give access to the curriculum for a diverse set of learners?

When giving access to the curriculum, I incorporate multiple styles of learning into my daily lessons. For one, my students often work within groups before working independently so that they can get feedback from each other …show more content…

For example, if my students were not able to grasp the essential concepts from today’s lesson, I use this information to determine the ideas that I will need to reteach and the different approaches that I will need to embrace to ensure mastery. Additionally, my students’ IEP goals also provide some guidance on the areas in which I will need to devote my instruction time on. This is especially useful at the beginning of the school year when I have a limited amount of data on my students’ abilities.

4) How do I collaborate with co-teachers and staff?

At the end of each day, I often meet with my co-teacher to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each lesson. Since my co-teacher and I take turns leading the class activities, we find that one teacher may observe issues that the other missed during the delivery of the lesson. Therefore, our different viewpoints provide a greater understanding of our students’ needs. Furthermore, when collaborating with other staffs (especially from my department), I usually approach them with the desire to know the successes and challenges of a unit that they’ve taught, in order to have a better understanding of what I will need to differentiate for my self-contained
