My first semester of college was spent at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and then for my second semester I transferred to SWIC. I ended up transferring because I couldn’t make up my mind on what I wanted to do so I wanted to save some money and just get my generals here at SWIC. The differences of going to school at SIUE and going to SWIC are tremendous. The biggest difference between SIUE and SWIC is that SIUE includes the cost of books into tuition. It is the top thing that SWIC could do differently since the cost of books is so expensive. You can easily spend over $600 on books for 16 credit hours, but at SIUE you only have to pay a certain amount each semester according to how many credit hours you take and in the end the cost of your books is much cheaper. Another good thing about this is that you automatically get every book for every class that you need and you actually use all the books. Sometimes at SWIC, you get the books that it says you need online, but then when you get to class the teacher will tell you that you actually don’t need one of the things you already bought. …show more content…

“The cost of college education is so high that many young people are giving up their dream of going to college, while many others are graduating deeply in debt” (Sanders, Harris). Books play a big role in that debt, because you may have the money to get your books, but then you still have to pay tuition. So then people start taking out loans to pay tuition and are graduating with such great debt. A lot of people struggle to pay for their books out-of-pocket. I know I do, so it would be nice if it was added to my tuition and I could pay it off slowly with the payment plan I already have set up to pay my
