College Entry Essay: Pursuing A Career And Technical Education

I have taken several steps when thinking about my future endeavors after high school. I was the first in my family plan on going to college. Much of this planning involved what classes I took as a student, my involvement with clubs and various sports as well. My experiences through these activities have better prepared me to reach my goal of gaining my bachelors degree in any education field of my choice. The main sport I competed in from the greater part of my childhood to current would be equestrian, or horseback riding. I began riding horses at the age of 6, and have continued to grow and blossom into the person I am today through the sport. Throughout my participation in riding, I learned the fundamental skills of discipline, teamwork, and leadership. I also became aware of the amount of commitment it took to be successful in riding. When it came to chose a pathway, a Career and Technical Education sponsored course, I chose one that would further my experience in labwork and the process of discovery. I chose Bioscience, a biotechnology class that teaches students lab skills such as using sterile technique, maintaining healthy cell cultures, and operating various equipment that would be found in a research lab. In the first two years of this course we learned how to use the equipment through instructor ran experiments. By the third year of the course we began our own research projects to run in the lab to demonstrate our full understanding and knowledge of the available lab equipment, such as the spectrophotometer, autoclave, thermocycler/PCR machine, and sterile hood. Bioscience taught me the valuable lesson of learning from one’s mistakes; if an experiment failed, we looked back on what went wrong, and then fixed any possible problem until results were
