In middle school I wasn’t always a strong student when it came to school which lead me to believe I wasn’t capable of doing big things. I was blinded by a shallow mindset that made me drag down my potential due to the simple thought of not being smart enough. This mindset traveled with me when I entered high school and sticked for a while, creating an obstacle that set me back from my potential. I went for regular classes because I was too scared to be in an advanced class even if it meant sitting in a classroom that didn’t do anything to challenge me. It was holding me back from showing who I truly was as a student. Although this is not a physical obstacle, it created a mental challenge that luckily changed thanks to an amazing staff that has mentored me to showcase my potential. …show more content…

This transition of mindset helped me become the person I am today. Today I am a hardworking responsible student that is motivated to graduate in order to continue my studies and focus on my dream. The Boys & Girls Club’s Educational Talent Search program has played a huge role in my motivation to continue my studies. Without them I would not have been able to accomplish my college applications, scholarships, FAFSA, and any questions I had about school. I could always count on the Boys & Girls Club to be there in every step of my high school life. When I was an underclassmen I wasn’t thinking of my future and what I wanted to do with my life after high school, but every month I would meet up with the Boys and Girls Club program at my school to talk about school and these meeting helped me overview what I can do to change my mindset. They helped me stay motivated to do good in school by talking about the SAT, my grades, my aspirations, and who I was as a person. Eventually, I was able to discover my aspirations for the
