Student Athletes Career Goals

My career goals might be a little different than almost everyone in this program. With that being said, it is my number one goal to make a positive impact in all aspect of student-athlete’s life through coaching the game of college football. I firmly believe that if as a coach all I do is make my student-athletes better at their sport, then you have failed as a coach. It is our duty to make a positive impact in their Academic, Social, Family, Weight Room, Spiritual and Mental Well-Being. In my eyes coaching is teaching and for me to become a better coach and to make an impact in these areas, I needed to learn how this age group thinks, learns and is motivated. It was because of this that I decided to enroll in the Adult and Postsecondary Education program. When I started this program I had no idea what adult and post-secondary education really was. Abstract: It was during this program that I began to notice disconnect in my student-athletes between knowing information in the meeting rooms and being able to use it on the field. Giving them printouts of the scouting report and game plans was a waste of both of our time and effort. In no other classroom setting were they getting printouts or hard copies of information. I noticed I needed to make a change and I transitioned to an electronic scouting report and game plan that was distributed through iTunes U. This switch allowed us to send interactive information attached with film straight to their iPad. I noticed immediately that student-athletes were more engaged and had a better understanding of the game plan. This is just a small example of why I felt the need to focus this goal towards identifying, learning, and implementing current technological strategies.
