Everyone I ever looked up to, my dad, uncle, and my older cousins, worked in the oil industry. My entire childhood I grew up listening to phone calls from my dad or conversations between my family about their work and part of me always knew I would end up in the same field. Throughout my high school career, I had my doubts about what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. A dream of mine has always been to own and operate a farm and every time I would think about what I wanted to do, I would always have that dream in the back of my mind, so I never really made a decision. The past couple of years I have worked as a foreman for a construction crew which has been a great experience and taught me a lot about leadership skills. One of the goals I have after I get my feet wet in the industry is to fine tune these skills and actually learn what it takes to manage a larger group of people. Not only will I need to better my managerial skills, I will also need to work on reading people. Reading people is something that in my opinion, is very overlooked. Knowing how to approach somebody on any given day can make the world of a difference in getting your point across and increasing productivity in the workplace. While this may fall into the managerial skills category, I know that this is something I struggle with the most and I feel like it is a big part of improving myself and something that I need to focus on more than anything else. On top of on the job managerial training, I will need to spend my time off of work to learn more about the financial side of business. I am unsure where this learning process will take me, but I will be open to going back to school on the side to obtain a Master of Business
