In 2015, the oil and gas extraction industry represented over 27% of Alberta’s GDP. That amounts to $81 billion dollars. It’s safe to say oil and gas is the life of our economy, and the source of thousands of individuals security. Within that industry is a diverse selection of careers that many do not often get recognized immediately as oil jobs. With such diversity, a business degree is an asset, as it provides a multitude of skills that can provided to a variety of positions. The oil and gas industry is not limited to one specific location. It spans the entire globe, and is a major industry in multiple countries. For this reason, careers in oil and gas are not limited to Alberta, or even Canada. As an individual who is extremely passionate about travelling and experiencing different locations and cultures, oil and gas provides me the opportunity to not just finance my adventures, but combine my job with my passion. Oil and gas allows you to apply many passions to one industry. That diversity is what drew me to a business degree in the first place. Business can be applied in different ways. It does not limit you to a single career path or profession. You can work as a manager for a company, or you can start your own. This diversity of opportunity can be transitioned into the energy sector. Having a business degree in this industry allows me to look into a variety of opportunities, from marketing oil to other nations, managing a equipment company, or analyzing the trends of the markets.
