Goals and Interests I am certain to become a lifelong scientific researcher. I realized this over the course of my undergraduate career through a diverse set of experiences that have both broadened my intellect and intensified my commitment biological research. My recent in-depth exposure to significant research as an Amgen Scholar solidified this commitment. This and many other defining moments along my academic journey have informed and transformed my specific interests within the biosciences. These interests center on developmental biology and include cell and molecular biology as well as genetics, neuroscience, and biochemistry. Fortunately for me, these fields go hand-in-hand, as a modern investigator cannot often answer a question within one without delving into one or more of the others. Furthermore, because impactful research within these and related fields is being carried out at institutions across the world, it is important that scientists collaborate as a global community. It is my goal to contribute to this community by expanding the current level of knowledge in the biological sciences while advancing the intellectual and cultural aims of society as a whole. Taken together, my interests and experiences within …show more content…
Since then, the biological phenomena that have fascinated me most include propagation of inter- and intracellular signals, induction of morphogenetic programs, and transmission of genetic material across generations. As I began to involve myself in biological research, and as I enrolled in advanced biology courses, I was continually reminded of the elegance of the field. It is amazing that every living organism is the product of billions of years of evolution, and that the foundation of all life is its molecular building blocks. The diversity of these building blocks and the complexity of their organization are, in a word,
