Ultimately studying the fields of philosophy and sociology have proven to enhance my perceptions, enabled me to embrace an open minded perspective and greatly assisted me with explaining complex and dynamic social
The question I am appreciating the most is Why does pricing become a problem when it comes to farming and our farmers. When analyzing who my audience is, I immediately think diversity. Although my class is a freshman English course, we all differ in age, gender, color, and interest. We are brought together due to our topic of class, which is food. But, when separate we have different takes on food.
Applying Open Mindedness at Lake Land College There are many practices that new students can adopt to help them be more successful at Lake Land College. They arrive at Lake Land College prepared in book learning but need guidance on how to be successful in college. I believe the practice of open mindedness is the single most important skill students can adopt to be successful in their educational career. By the time students start their study at Lake Land College they have already formed their vision of the world, their personality, and they have their own personal views on various topics. College life for the new student often brings new cultural encounters, unexpected thought-provoking knowledge, and experiences requiring investigation and
In order to even have something to share with the class in the first place it was up to each of us to read, understand, and analyze the texts we were given for their meaning. This by far was probably most enjoyable part of the class for me personally, partly because I found many of the texts we read to have quite a bit of philosophical content. During the course I found the readings with Marcus Aurelius and Aristotle of particular interest and much of what they had to say spoke to me on a personal level. For example, I found Aristotle’s understanding about the distinction between concord and friendship in the Nicomachean Ethics to be very apt. Though the difference between these two types of relationships can seem minute, a large distinction can be made between them in terms of common interest.
Although I aimed to get the perspectives of ten students, only four were willing to participate or respond to my questions. Persons consulted are as follows: Subject # Pseudonym 1
Dear Student of PHIL 100 Appreciation of Philosophy, Before taking Philosophy, I didn’t really know what to expect. I knew that taking it would fulfill 3 “arts and humanities” credits, which I need to graduate, and that was about it. Now, I know that Philosophy is one of those things that makes you challenge your beliefs, to see if your stance on a subject is actually your stance, or if it is what you were taught to believe. For instance, when we learned about the mind, you had to chose if you were a monist or dualist.
Portland Community College is a diverse and welcoming college. With many resources and different learning environments fit to all students needs, the students prosper. The Learning Garden on the Rock Creek campus is a great example of one of the several resource centres set up to help students with their education. It really reflects the helpful attitude that PCC sets up as a whole. The Learning Garden is a great addition to the campus because it is a peaceful learning environment, generous with it’s products and is resourceful and open to other students.

Class Analysis As of today, I have been in the class for o few weeks. Over the course of time, I have realized that my class is comprised with a variation of people who share common similarities and differences. Our similarities vary firm gender and the way up to fears. In this essay I will be breaking down some of these basic traits so that you, the reader, can get a better glimpse of my class.
When thinking about how I want my future class to be, I realized that my philosophy listed above is a mixture of many different theorists. I took little bits and pieces of each and put them into what I want my class to look like and function
In Paulo Freire’s essay The “Banking” Concept of Education, Freire highlights two differing forms of education: “banking” and “problem posing”. The banking concept is one in which the students are simply being “filled” by the teachers’ transferal of information, rather than actually learning material (Freire 216). This type of education resists dialogue and suggests that the students are simply objects in a passive setting that they have essentially accepted. Often this causes certain facts to be concealed and a lack of true critical thinking, especially about reality. On the opposite side of the spectrum, problem posing encourages communication.
Why Philosophical Analysis Matters? 1. Better comprehension and communication There are a vast amount of words and each of them may have a different explanation and it is determined by the person and in what way he or she is using it. Culture, location, and nationality may be some of the factors for the different meaning of the words.
Taking this class has had a profound impact on me. I have learned how to properly study for a college class. Also, I learned how to effectively communicate and reach out to my professor. This was my first college course which gave me a learning experience about psychology and myself as a student. I have learned how to manage my time, study in ways that are better for me, focus on the task in front of me, and reaching out and taking opportunities.
1. Philosophical analysis is an essential tool for the improvement of our critical thinking skills. The world have introduced to us different ideas about life, death and the existence of God, and thinking about these concepts could sometimes be really confusing. The only effective way to analyze these kinds of concepts is through critical thinking, breaking down the broad and big questions into smaller and more specific questions to understand them better.
