Did you know that 85% of people go to college with some form of financial aid? Many students receive financial aid and scholarships every year. Many states have programs for free junior college. If colleges are free, they would offer an inferior education and/or increased taxes on the American citizens. College should not be free because of these reasons and more. Many people say that they don’t have money available for college at the time, which is a big reason why they should take out a student loan. The government says, “The average student graduates with $25,000 of student debt”, which is a fraction of the national average cost of tuition after four years. Many people may say that student loans are an unwise decision, but the government can forgive them. According to the government, “There is a three-part plan in order to cancel thousands of dollars of student debt for low-middle income earners.”. This means that the money goes to the people that need it most. This proves that if you aren’t accepted for financial aid, a loan is the way to go. …show more content…

Think about it, if all colleges were free, how would they hire university-level professors or afford proper equipment? If the students aren’t paying for their education, then the American taxpayers would carry the burden. According to educationdata.org, “Programs for free college could range from $28 billion-$58 billion depending on whether it is a first dollar or last dollar tuition-free program.”. If the students aren’t paying directly, then the millions of taxpayers in America will be. If college was free there would be an increase in taxes and a decrease in education
