The movie, “The Sixth Sense,” the color red take a great place in the film. Symbolism was shown as the color red to help the filmmakers express the movie with one color. The color red symbolized the crossover of the dead and alive worlds and also means protection. The color red is used to show the audience the crossover of the two different worlds which Cole is scared of. Many props and clothing were usually red to indicate protection or death. In the scene where Cole goes into the church, you can see that the door and doorknob are red. This particular scene symbolizes that red was meant for protection against the ghosts. Another scene that has a similar scene was Cole’s bedroom, in his bedroom we can see that he has a red tent which Cole hides himself and the little Jesus’s that protect Cole. The depicts visual literacy to the audience to show that red was used to protect Cole from the ghosts that scare him. Red is also shown in the birthday scene where only one red balloon was shown floating to the top of the ceiling. This first shows that the red balloon stands out from the other pastel-colored balloons. This shows the audience that the red balloon is special from the others. Cole notices the red balloon and follows it, then Cole hears a ghost in the closet.
