In recent discussions of Columbine by Dave Cullen, a controversial issue has been what led Eric and Dylan to cause a high school massacre. On the one hand, some argue they had been bullied and were apart of a group of social outcasts, called Trenchcoat Mafia that was associated by Goth culture or maybe even violent video games, which is what led to them their actions. From this perspective, people believed they wanted revenge on those who bullied them or being apart of a social outcast group led them to feeling excluded, looked down upon, or even rejected which may have led to a dark life. On the other hand, others would argue that Eric and Dylan’s was not focused on killing anyone specific, like jocks, rather they were just objected to killing a large spree. Eric and Dylan were looking to do a great damage to the world, but instead settled on their school. In the words of Eric Harris, “All I want to do is kill and injure as many of you pricks as I can!”. According to this view, Eric’s mindset was focused on killing and injuring as many people as he possibly could, trying to do a great damage to the world. After all, Eric and Dylan’s original plan was not intended for a school shooting, but instead a bombing intended to kill over 500 people. Although some might object that wanting to get revenge on those who bullied them and feeling excluded is what led them to their actions, I would disagree that that is not the case because they were focused on killing a large group of people, not anyone specific like those who bullied them. The issue is important because people need to understand what drove Eric and Dylan to being the cause of a high school
