Eric Harris And Columbine Shooting

Columbine was a very tragic event. The Colombine shooting was when two teens, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, went on a shooting spree in their high school. They killed and wounded lots of students, and one teacher. The attack on Columbine happened April 20, 1999, twenty three people were wounded during the attack (“We are Columbine” Fox News). Columbine is located at Littleton Colorado (“Columbine Shooting” History Channel). Eric Harris,who was one of the shooters, was very angry. After people read through his journal they discovered that he has said some grusome things about the people around him. Sue now has to live for the rest of her life knowing her son commited suicide and killed lots of people in his high school. Every time someone asks Sue about her son being suicidal she says it feels like a punch in the gut. Sue is still confused as to why her sons suicide had to turn into a mass homocide (“My son was a Columbine shooter” TedTalks). Two years after the shooting Sue got breast cancer. Two years after that she started to have mental health problems and panic attacks. She was afraid to turn on the news and see her son on the news. She had to see a mental health doctor. Sue still wonders what and how she failed as a parent and if she could have changed the outcome of what had happened (“My son was a Columbine shooter” TedTalks). Dylan could have never pulled off Columbine without Eric. Eric had a lot of anger and helped fuel Dylans anger (“At least we know why the Columbine killers did it” SLATE). They asked Cassie Bernall if she believed in God and she said yes and they shot her to death, they don’t know for sure if Dylan and Harris where targeting people or not but it is believed by many people that they where not (“Columbine Shooting” History Channel). The people who died were, Cassie Bernall,17; Steven Curnow,14; Corey Depooter,17; Kelly Fleming,16; Mathew Ketcher,16; Daniel Mauser,15; Rachel Scott,17; Isaiah Shoeis,18;John Tomlin,16; Lauren Townsend,18; Kyle Valusauez,16; and the teacher William “Dave” Sanders who was 47 (“We are Columbine” Fox News). Schools across the country tried to figure out what they could or would do during such an emergency and to identify and care for potentially violent students. It is still argued today on what to do in such an event. There are even more school shootings now than there where back then.
