Columbus does not deserve the credit of being called a hero because he did not start a new civilization. In fact, “American Indian people have been on this continent at least 10,000 years, and scientists have proven that numerous other explorers had arrived on this continent from other parts of the world long before Columbus.” (Document 3). Instead of forming a new civilization with the American Indians instead he invaded their land, changed their culture and how they lived he indeed did not start a new civilization.
I believe that Columbus is a hero since he kinda figured about America. I believe that he figured our America since if he never sailed there no one wouldn't had known that America existed. Even when Columbus did figure about America he did hold some people as hostage to explore the area i think he just did that since he probably didn’t feel safe around that
I agree that his accidental discovery ultimately led to the massacre of countless Natives. Although, he might be considered a hero for 'discovering ' the New World. However, there were several who came before him and inhabited the land, such as the Natives. Thus, the impossibility of discovering something that had already been in place. For this reason, I would not consider Columbus a hero.
I think that Christopher Columbus was a good and bad guy. He was truly good to his people, the people that he lead. If you were one to follow

Was Christopher Columbus a hero or a villain? Not everyone will agree on this topic because everyone has a different point of view in the way he discovered the New World. Columbus Day is celebrated in recognition of Columbus “discovering” America in 1492. Many consider him a hero for that one reason but don’t acknowledge what he did when he first reached America. I personally believe Columbus is not worthy of being called a hero for various reasons. One of the reasons is that Columbus killed millions of native Americans because of his lust for gold. The native Americans were kind and generous towards Columbus and his men, but he enslaved them and forced them to do his dirty work for him.
Christopher Columbus was an awful man who treated natives as inferior, yet people celebrate him. Loewen states that former President George H.W. Bush had very kind words to say about our so-called hero. Bush said that “Christopher Columbus not only opened the door to a New World, but also set an example for us all by showing what monumental feats can be accomplished through faith and perseverance”. Cleary, he must not know about the slave trade and slaughter that came along with that “faith and perseverance”. Jeffrey Hart, a columnists, also had affectionate words to say about Columbus.

Christopher Columbus made a big impact on trading and religion, but was the impact he made destructive for future generations by creating violence and enslavement? Or was it beneficial for the generations to come in that he discovered the americas and spread Christianity? Did he do everything for his own benefit or the benefit of others? Christopher Columbus was a greedy person who only cared about himself, he should be remembered as a slave owner and murderer because that’s who he was. Christopher Columbus shouldn’t be so greatly remembered, his victims should be.
Christopher Columbus is a man who is commonly depicted as a hero and great explorer who discovered our modern day America, but many of the so called “facts” are not all completely true as people would like to believe. Columbus was undoubtedly a courageous explorer who brought many new ideas, cultures, and resources to be exchanged between the New World and Europe. While this is true, it is not uncommon for people to forget the harmful effects brought along with the voyages made by Columbus and the darker details of his times in America. Columbus started from humble middle class family. Columbus was born in 1451 in the Republic of Genoa as the oldest of his four siblings.
And that is why I am grateful to have learned many details that shine the light on the way that Christopher Columbus actually was like, a villain. I have my reasons for considering Columbus a villain. For example Because of him there is much less diversity in animals. And if that wasn’t bad enough he is also the reason why there are very few native americans left.
One of the readings for week three talked about the complete destruction of the Native American race because of Christopher Columbus. Many believe Christopher Columbus was a hero, and in a way they are right. However, our history books do not talk about him killing off an entire race because of his own greed. Columbus took the Arawak Indians hostage because he believed that they would lead him to gold. When that did not turn out as planned, Columbus decided to go on a slave raid and bring five hundred Indians back Spain.
Eventually he was able to sail. He changed history by never giving up. If he had given up, we would not have everything that we have today, and people would not know about the new land until years or months after he found the land. In conclusion, I think that Christopher columbus is a hero.
Some say Christopher Columbus was a hero because he was the explorer that discovered America. In reality, Christopher Columbus had an incredibly negative impact on the world because he enslaved the Native Americans, didn’t help the kind Natives when they got infected by diseases that the Spaniards had brought to America, and killed off most of the Native American population. The tactics he chose to use were violent and destructive by the standards back then and now. First, Columbus treated the Native Americans like uncivilized people by enslaving them and forcing them to work for him although they greeted him and his crew peacefully. ” They could make fine servants,”(document 2) he wrote in his journal,”I took them by force.
