Companies define their identities as an organization through their mission statements. These statements are meant to be indicative of the way the organization works internally and represents itself to those outside of the organization. A good mission statement, such as REI’s, informs potential customers, that their brand is of these highest quality and the service behind the brand is just as good. However, someone organization deviate from who they say they are and what they are about, which causes distrust in the organizations brands or services with consumers, such as Comcast. A major difference between these two mission statements is, REI’s statement incorporates elements of servant leadership and Comcast’s does not. REI’s mission statement is much more detailed compared to the vision statement of Comcast. It outlines specifically what the company’s core identity, purpose, and values are. Comcast’s mission statement identifies their interest in being innovative and moving the company forward, however because of the lack of employee value its easy to find critical statements by employees. On Glassdoor.com, which is an employee driven review site, information on salary, hiring practices, as well as insider perspective and trade secrets on the company can be found. A former employee stated “ Comcast overworks their employees, has poor communication at the management level, is not employee centric, and negatively affects work life balance” (Glassdoor.com, 2017). This employee perspective was expressed through many reviews found on the site. This is a prime example on how Comcast lacks to manifest employee and community
