Advantages and Disadvantages of Commercial Farming It’s a very split debate when it comes to continuing to use commercial farming in our country and even in our world. With statistics that show in just one year the livestock and poultry that live on these commercial farms produced enough manure to fill the Dallas Cowboy’s stadium 133 times, individuals have risen up to fight against commercial farming (“What’s Wrong With,” 2017). Although a very frightening statistic, some individuals also claim that there are many benefits to commercial farming such as cheap labor, meaning a cheaper cost of production, finally ending in a cheaper product (“The Advantages of,” 2017). African Globe points out many advantages of large scale commercial farming in Africa such as Availability of huge tracts of contiguous fertile land at low prices, scope for inventions such as better seeds and improved farm technology, availability of labour at cheaper rates unlike developing nations, reduced freight costs and increasing cost competitiveness, and Africa is the world's largest importer of many products making it a readily domestic market for whatever will be produced on their farms (“The Advantages of,” 2017). While African Globe makes some strong points, Food & Water Watch also does, only in the other direction.
