Over the duration of the Communication Skills and Human Services course this year I have been able to gain knowledge and theory behind key communication skills and contexts as well as expand on my previous skills and experiences to not only achieve the course objectives but essentially to further prepare me for my career outside of university. This was achieved through many group discussions, comprehensive theory, studio role plays and also through completing reflection journals which enabled me to reflect on which of these methods were most effective for my learning and also to analyse my strengths in communication as well as areas that need further development. Self-awareness is an attribute that I feel that I not only possess, but actively work on and consider an important value to engage with on a regular basis. In the tutorial for the second week, we were given the task to write a brief personal profile of ourselves, focusing on whatever aspects we wanted, as long as we remained entirely honest with ourselves. On reflection of my journal for that week, I detail in several pages many things about myself as an individual varying from what my drives and passions are, the qualities I feel that I possess, the kinds or food and activities I like to engage in as well as how I feel that other people view me. I recall that this came very naturally to me, as I often partake in self-reflection regularly.
