Having a sense of community means I can receive support, which also benefits my health. For example, whenever I have an important test, I always turn to my friends for notes, advice, and crucial information I need to review. This makes it easier for me to study effectively and reduces
Most people make the assumption that a community is made up of people who live near them when really it could be made up of people from all over the world. The word “community” can mean many things to different people and everyone has their own opinion on what it means to them. To me community means a group of people who all share the same interest, likes, and who are willing to come together and help one another in times of need. That is why I strongly believe that even if you are on the opposite sides of the world from one another you could still come together and be apart of a strong healthy community. To create your own community with others even if it is through the internet is very simple and you really just have to be willing to accept
Growing up in Hawaii, the idea of community was always such a fundamental part of who I was. I have never looked at it from the perspective of how it benefited me rather how it benefitted everyone around me. Everything I have done from joining local clubs that enriched the Hawaiian culture to volunteering with the west Hawaii special olympics program have helped me become the person I am today. My family has had a huge role in making sure that I am involved with the community. They passed down their practices in paddling, environmental conservation of Kealakekua Bay and encouraging the people who need it the most.
What is community-based art (CBA)? Surely it would be absurd if “community” nor “art” were related to it; this is not what I am asking. This question is deeper and more significant: what does CBA entail, and how can humans spot it? The answer: humans cannot spot community-based art, and humans cannot comprehend the complexity of it. Even The Laramie Project, a play that seemingly speaks for a community and is seemingly art-- superficially reaching the requirements needed to exist as CBA-- may never be community-based arts in itself.
Community to me is defined as a group of different individuals with different outlooks on each other that are in the same living space, which is sort of like a family. Even though a few will bump heads along the way, I believe that each will learn to
One of the most Interesting thing that Dr. Martin Luther King believed that in order to completely eliminate racism, religious discrimination, and any other type of hatred for being different, we would need to first embrace the things that made everyone different Beloved Community" raises a very interesting objection to the notion of the concept of the "beloved community" as expressed by Dr. Martin Luther King. The reason I choose is this because Dr. King mentioned that In speaking about the possibility of actualizing the Beloved community in history, King attempted to avoid what he called a superficial optimism" upon the on hand, and a crippling pessimism" on the other. He knew that the solution of social problems is a slow process. At the
In the passage from Staying Put: Making a Home in a Restless World, the author, Scott Sanders critically counters Salman Rushdie’s claim that migration is essential and effective. He also acts as a fair debater by explaining Rushdie's claims, though he uses a critical tone to emphasize that unlike Rushdie, he believes that staying put is better than migrating. Aside from using tone, as Sanders argues his perspective, he uses powerful diction to characterize certain ideas negatively or positively. Sanders also uses sophisticated language, including metaphors and personification, to support his points and give the readers a bigger sense of the negative effects of migration. Furthermore, by referring to historical examples, Sanders makes his argument more credible, therefore reinforcing his
