Lessane, with the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office, responded to Yemassee Police Department, in the Yemassee area of Hampton County, in regards to an verbal assault between an Insurance Agent and the Mayor of Yemassee. Bobby Arnett, agent from All State stated he was threatened by the Mayor of Yemassee, Jerry Cook, when he attempted to go recover an vehicle from Jerry’s Used Cars. Mr. Arnett stated upon his arrival, Mr. Cook arrived at his business shortly after him and made verbal threats to kill him.

According to the text, many communities are in need of the potential benefits of the model are themselves characterized by crime, disorder, and mistrust of the police, making it very hard to successfully implement community. Nevertheless, a responsive officer serving a specific neighborhood has the potential to have an impactful presence in the community. The third program the BPD vehemently supports is the neighborhood watch program. The purpose of the program is to reduce and prevent neighborhood crime. A police officer is an employee of the government who has been given the duty to enforce the law by maintaining order and arresting lawbreakers. If I were to go into law enforcement then I would like to be the Social Agent, since the major duty of the police is to serve and protect the public; hence, I would be willing to combine with other typologies (Patterson, 2014). Actually, it is useful to have these typologies, as it will ensure that the public and the police officers get to understand that police officers can be different but their main aim is to serve the same purpose. “Community policing” relates to authority( i.e, police) and how power is used. I find this type of community interesting because often hear about the police in the media. Police brutality has also been of interest recently. I usually hear friends and family discuss how ethical police officers' actions were. Sometimes they decide what sort punishment the officers deserve for their action even though their words will not change anything.
Problem solving is used to reduce offending in a community. It believes that crimes are caused by existing social conditions. It involves both law enforcement and the community in ways to reduce or prevent crime (i.e., neighborhood watch). The community is a very important aspect of this operational strategy. Departments need to do more to develop solutions with a partnership of the community.
During this era crime prevention program were funded for the community and police put together. This sort of policing is a plan focused on building ties and working closely with the people in our community to identify and settle problems. Community policing also target low level crime and disorder. I feel this current era perspective was formed because Reform Era and Political Era were not in good grace with citizenship. Both eras’ had outstanding records of misconduct and excessive force toward citizens.
Explain the difference between a centralized organization and a decentralized organization. A centralized organization generally relies on a single person or a very small, select group of people to make the decisions for the rest of the organization to follow. Pertaining to criminal justice, this would be a national police force under the federal government or, in the more extreme cases, under a single totalitarian leader. Examples of nations with a centralized police force are Israel, Denmark, Belgium, and Sweden, where centralization has seen some success (Berkley, 1970). Contrarily, examples of centralization could also be found in Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, and fascist Italy and Spain (Berkley, 1970).
The Planned Change Model is a seven step process which involves: engagement, assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, termination and follow up. (Campus, 2014-2015) In the scenario provided, as social workers the first step would involve engaging the community. As a community dealing with the issue of crime, it would be important to include all stakeholders from the community, victims as well as non-affected individuals.’ Secondly, we would walk through, speaking randomly to engage community members so as to get information on what is happening on the grounds of the community.

The topic for this research proposal project is on community policing, and the factors that are involved in determining if relationships between law enforcement and citizens in these neighborhoods are strained. In order to be successful, community policing must be built on trust, as both civilians and law enforcement must work hand in hand to protect their communities. If there is a lack of trust, then these programs becomes broken, and can therefore lead to other violence and criminal acts. This research proposal project will focus on minority based communities and citizens, where the majority of the citizens are either African American or Hispanic.
