Have you ever noticed how the adolescent brain works completely different than the adult brain? Throughout a child’s life they go through two major brain developments in their lives. One major development happens when they are infants/toddlers, and another happens right before their adolescent years. The human brain is not fully developed until the mid-twenties which can cause adolescents to react differently than adults would. For humans by the age of six their brains have developed only 95% of the way and the other 5% will begin to continue to grow beginning right before their adolescent years. Adolescents do not always make the best choices because of the way that their brains works. When they think they use different parts of their brain for it then adults do on a regular basis. This can cause them to react differently than adults, and this also factors into their choices of “risky behaviors.” …show more content…
They do not understand why their parents will react the way that they do because teens believe that they are doing what is right for them. Considering teens brains do work so differently they constantly feel like their parents just do not understand why they think the way that they do. Many scientist within the videos on PBS did multiple studies on various teens brains to see why they function the way that they do. One scientist did a study on multiple teen’s brains by showing them various pictures and asking them to explain the emotion that is expressed within the picture. Many teens saw some of the expressions as being something completely different than what the adults might of seen. For example, an adult may of seen one facial expression as meaning fear, but then a teen may of seen it as being anger. They soon realized teens were interpreting emotions differently because they interpret them from a different part of the brain than adults
