Priorer to the expansion of the global web in the 1400s, there was already a global system. This global web prior to the expansion was held together by land routes such as the silk road. The trade was also isolated to one half of the globe. After the expansion the globe became smaller then ever before. Cultures, goods, languages, and people rapidly spread to new areas, Travlers such as Vasco de Gamma, Christopher Columbus, and Zheng He are some of the main catalyst to this spread. What each of these people attributed to man kind is different. All the new trade routes opened up oppurtunity for gold and glory for people all across the globe, such opportunities are connected to the founding of America. Polynesians and Vikings by 1000 C.E. had “routes were well established and studded with commercial seaports”. However, the exploration of the Atlantic was almost nonexistent by the 1400s. That is when explorers such as Christopher Columbus and Zheng He had to strengthen sea travel. Zheng He a traveler for the Ming dynasty was able to build confidence in travelers to travel across large parts of the South China Sea.When Christopher Columbus started his voyage he was able to open issolaed lands. In the Carabian he would start the Columbian Exchange. Alone the biological globalization from the trade of new crops such as potatoes assisted in the population boom in areas such as China and Ireland. When the Spaniards got to South America in 1521 “The Indian population from about 18 million at the time of contact to approximately 1 million in 1605”, and the indigenous people have still not recovered. In North America, we can see the same thing happen where indigenous people were forced out of their lands and battered with smallpox with a 90 percent decline in population. Along with death, these places were also flooded with slavery. The Middle Passage during this time stimulated the economies of European countries, especially in 1441 when the Portuguese started working with Western Africans. Both North and South America felt what would come from the Middle passage during the Atlantic Slave trade.. The Portuguese and Dutch who dominated South America brought in thousands of slaves into Brazil for plantation work. The Carabian and the Americas followed suit causing in the enslavement of people for generations.
