Compare and Contrast DI Module I
Direct instruction was introduced by the American professor B.F. Skinner and primarily focuses on behavior psychology. “DI is a teaching method that bypasses the brain and causes an unnatural reflex that is controlled and programmed” (Hayes 1999). Lesson plans are a vital part of direct instruction and contain detailed information that is listed step by step. In a direct instruction lesson plan it is written in script form because then verbal cues can be used. Verbal cues are intended to encourage the students to all have the same certain reaction, such as a teacher snapping her fingers when he/she wants them to sing a line of a poem.
