In present time, however, rules have changed. Heroes don’t have to be knights protecting their kingdom anymore. They can be activists, entertainers, authors, entrepreneurs, etc. It doesn’t matter their career, if they were to incorporate helping others it can show a great deal of heroism. Beowulf and Maya Angelou are both examples of heroes.
Most heroes are determined and courageous. Frederick Douglass once said, “I remained firm...reaching new york without any interruption(SB 71).” Which meant that he was determined to spread the word to the world about slavery and no one could stop him from doing so. Also, another hero Odysseus showed determination and courage when he blinded the cyclops to get out of the cave. “We took the red hot stake and twisted it round and round like that in his eye(SB 33).”
Heroism Who is your hero? It may be your dad or, perhaps another family member, one that you have known your whole life as a hero. Maybe it is a fictional character. A person that you don't know or have never seen, but still you think of them as a hero.
Heros’ come in many shapes and forms. Tall, short, small, big, anyone can be a hero, they just have to put in the effort. Though anyone can be a good hero, a great hero is somebody who inspires others, makes a difference, and is selfless. First and foremost, a great hero must be someone who inspires others. Ida B. Wells is an example of a true hero.
There are many traits that heroes can demonstrate in stories. The two stories The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, and “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell both have heros in them. Connell’s story portrays a hero named Rainsford, who crosses a mysterious island where humans are hunted for fun, and he himself has to run for his life. Twain’s book follows a young boy named Huck, who has run away from his father, and his older friend Jim, who is a runaway slave. Jim is more of a hero because he is more self-sacrificing, unafraid of negative consequences, and more determined.
A hero is someone who is willing to sacrifice themselves for the greater good. They don’t need to be incredibly strong, blazing fast or highly intelligent. They don’t need skills, they need a big heart. Based on this definition, Eragon from the book Eragon and David from The Chrysalids are hero’s. They both have the traits, follow the hero’s journey and sacrifice things for the greater good of something bigger.
It is important to have bravery as a hero because it helps you conquer any fears you have. Daniel showed a lot of bravery and courage fighting aliens. He also showed bravery and courage when accepting the mission of becoming an alien hunter. David showed bravery when going against what the government said which was that differences are bad and someone with a difference is not human. It is brave for David to go against the government because they are in charge of anything and David goes against them they could do very evil things to him.

Heroes are not defined or created by people or events that shape who they are but they are born to make a change. Throughout history there has been several heroes born to make a change. Heroes can be traced throughout history and still continue to exist. Heroes are born with a greater intention for their futures than mindlessly working through life; they are born to be leaders. Real heroes are born to set standards for the future and to lead the present.
Heroes in our society are revered and respected as Joseph Campbell reminds us: “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself” (Joseph Campbell). Heroes exist in all societies and throughout history. Maybe they are not always on the news or from the movies, but their words and their actions never fail to resonate across their feats. A hero gives of himself and dedicates himself to causes which better others and their society unlike individuals who are self serving, greedy, and cruel.
Every past and modern culture over the course of history, has its hero’s. A hero is a person or figure that others look up to and use as forms of protection. Many cherish the hero’s, they make up who we are today. The Anglo-Saxon hero, Beowulf, and the postmodern hero/hero’s, the soldiers, both show the traits of bravery, selflessness, and loyalty. To have the trait of bravery you have to have lots of confidence in yourself and have courage.
Looking back on the myths a hero did not have it easy. They faced a lot of tough challenges and had to sacrifice many things to gain their status. Also look at one Hero that is highly idolized and used to day, the American solider. Little kids dream of being them and do pretend battles while lacking to see the true meaning behind them. That heroic meaning is them risking their lives, that they walk away from their families knowing they might not come back.
Before evaluating their differences it’s only fair to consider what these two Kings share, Saul and David were not perfect but the Bible explicitly says that the Prophet Saul anointed both as king under God’s direction. Both Kings were mighty in battle because the “The Spirit of the Lord was upon him…” therefore enemy armies were conquered as evidence that God was with them. In conclusion, as Bernini’s David is made during the Baroque period, where it used to be more detailed and highlights motion, as we noticed in the sculpture; unlike Michelangelo’s David which is made during the renaissance period, where it used to be detailed but not much and didn’t depict movements. From those differences that are between both sculptures and there periods we can determine that Bernini’s David is more expressive than Michelangelo’s
