Dubois and Washington strategies were extremely different and the way they thought about going about equality. Washington was loved by whites he was not the one to get confortartional. Washington wanted blacks to sit around and wait. Whereas Dubois was hated and feared by whites. Dubois was an agitator.

For many year blacks have been hindered from success, but now blacks have the opportunity to work their way up next to whites if they unite and follow either Booker T. Washington or W.E.B. Dubois. W.E.B. Dubois believes that blacks should demand that blacks fight for their freedom now. On the other hand, Booker T. Washington realizes that the whites aren’t ready for equality with blacks and that they need to gradually increase their freedom by becoming economically successful first then by gradually becoming free. E. B. DuBois was a white civil rights leader during the nineteenth century. In 1903, DuBois critiqued Booker T. Washington’s “Atlanta Compromise” in an essay called “Of Mr. Booker T. Washington and Others” within his book, The Souls of Black Folk . DuBois asked for political power, insistence on civil rights, and higher education for African Americans. Booker T. Washington’s speech was looked at by many and to the radicals it looked like a “complete surrender of the demand for civil and political equality”(DuBois) for the entire African American population. Abolitionists such as Frederick Douglass and W. E. B. DuBois disagreed with the idea of accommodation and submission.
In the era of 1920’s and 30’s; Black-America witnessed a rivalry between none other than Booker T. Washington and W.E.B Du Bois. This changed the navigation of society and was the birth of the Civil Rights Movement. Even though they were born in the same era, their views on African-American living standards differed in a few ways. Their upbringing and differences of methods is what shaped Black-America into what it is today.

Outline: This essay will showcase the contradicting philosophies between W.E.B Du Bois and Booker T. Washington. Also, paying close attention to the different types of leadership between the two historic leaders in the black community. Both W.E.B Du Bois and Booker T. Washington contributed to and helped shape the future of African Americans.
After looking at both Booker T. Washington and W.E. B. Dubois, I feel that Booker T. Washington had the best solution and best route for his solution for the black community. He was raised a salve and new first hard the lifestyle a majority of the blacks were coming from. He knew the frustrations that they had and knew how to deal with the situations. He was extremely educated just like W. E. B. Dubois, and he understand that change would take time. He knew that many whites would not change their opinions over night and that it would take a long time to get what all black deserved.
Booker T. Washington and W.E.B Du Bois were African-American thinkers who had a vision of how African Americas should be treated with equality. The two historians had many similarities such as both of them believed that both Americans and Africans should have equal rights. Both W.E.B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington advocated for the rights and equality of African-Americans. However, they differed on how and when African-Americans should achieve their rights. According to Booker T., the African-Americans should first concentrate on getting jobs and obtain vocational training.
After studying earth for 150 years we have collected many valuable artifacts and to bring these home we have to leave a crew member behind to influence earth. I am choosing to leave behind Booker T. Washington instead of W.E.B Dubois. I have chosen Washington to stay because I believe his slower approach towards racial progress in the U.S will result in less violence. Washington believes that if black’s learn trade skills they can slowly emerge themselves into society as an equals. He has plans to create an all African American school teaching trade skills to blacks called Tuskegee Normal.
In the mid-to-late 1800s the African American community faced opposition and segregation. They were segregated from the whites and treated as second-class citizens. This segregation was caused in part by Jim Crow laws. Jim Crow laws separated races in schools, hospitals, parks, public buildings, and transportation systems. Both Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois had ideas on how to improve African American lives, Washington believed in starting at the bottom and working up whereas Du Bois had an opposing viewpoint he saw starting from the bottom as submissive and believed African Americans should hold important jobs in order to demand equal treatment.
Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” King’s words immaculately depict Booker T. Washington’s methods of ending discrimination in the Jim Crow south. While King’s words perfectly depict Washington’s philosophy, they directly rebut against WE.B Dubois’ methods of ending discrimination in the Jim Crow south. Even though both men agreed that African Americans deserved the fair treatment, they combatted viewpoints on how to resolve the issue.
Furthermore, issues of racism are highly evident in all three texts, but especially Frankenstein and Dracula. Critic John Allen Stevenson states in Vampire in the Mirror that “Color, in fact, which is commonly used in attempts at racial classification, is a key element in Stoker’s creation of Dracula’s foreignness. Here, and throughout the novel, the emphasis is on redness and whiteness” (141). “Lucy and Mina take on this coloration as Dracula works his will on them. There is first of all the reiterated image of red blood on a white nightgown (103, 288), a signature that Dracula leaves behind after one of his visits (and a traditional emblem of defloration)”
At the turn of the century, two leaders drove the civil rights movement: W. E. B. DuBois and Booker T. Washington. Both voiced responses to the fact that African Americans were shackled by the oppressive confines of an culture who viewed African Americans as inferior. Both men address the African American population, but neither men address how to change the mindsets of the white population, so men and women of all colors will be able to unite and live as one people. If African Americans follow Washington and limit themselves to the work and serve the white man “with devotion” as they did in the past, African Americans will continue to be enslaved, tilling the same fields as their shackled ancestors. W.E.B DuBois’ plan was smarter than Booker T. Washington’s because DuBois’ plan was to fight for the rights of African Americans, and give people a good and equal education. Booker T Washington’s plan was to ignore segregation and discrimination so he can just focus on the wealth and education of former slaves to win over the whites acceptance. One part of DuBois’ plan was the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, NAACP. This Association was one of the most influential civil rights organization. It “focused on legal strategies designed to confront the critical civil rights issues.”.
The fight against the oppression of African-Americans was an uphill battle until the year 1865, when slavery was officially abolished in the U.S. through the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment. About 30 years later there were many African- American leaders and activists, two of which were Booker T. Washington and W. E. B. Du Bois. In 1895, Booker T. Washington gave a speech at the Cotton States and International Exposition in Atlanta, which is now called "The Atlanta Compromise." Washington's speech became famous for his use of the metaphor "cast down your bucket" that he applied to the African-American community of the South. By “casting down their buckets” he means that remaining in the South and working hard to improve their conditions
Booker T. Washington was born a slave and worked as a janitor to get through school. Whereas W.E.B. Du Bois was born in the North and faced very little discrimination, and had an easier time getting into College. They were well educated, and the only difference between them was how they were raised in different environments. Both were on the journey to improve African American’s social and political status in America. However, they had different methods for getting what they wanted.
