In the film “Finding Forrester”, the connection of the two main characters, Jamal Wallace and William Forrester's passion for reading and writing shows the readers the development of true friendship between the two.In the film “Finding Forrester”, the connection of the two main characters, Jamal Wallace and William Forrester show the readers the development of their friendships because of their interest in reading and writing.

Jamal Wallace is a 16 years old black boy from the Bronx who is talented in writing and enjoys basketball. Jamal discovered to embrace his writing after spending his time with Willaim Forrester. William Forrester, a mysterious Caucasian man in his 70s turns out to be an exceptional author with a top award for his book “Avalon Landing”. However, William Forrester neither wants to become a part of the outside world nor be associated with it as he lives shut in his apartment. Williams lost all his family considering no one along staying by his side. Williams isn’t very open about himself, or his past. In the film, William made sure Jamal does not ask about his life. This sets boundaries for Wiliam, as to unsure if Jamal can be trusted. Alongside Jamal who excels academically well in his test went and is intentionally good at writing has struggled to express all his creative thoughts going inside his brain. William has shown Jamal what it meant to be a good writer. William tells Jamal “the first key to writing is to write” and that “thinking comes later”. Williams evens tell Jamal that the first draft should be written from the heart. This was one of the big lessons Williams shared with Jamal when writing; always write with your heart first then your mind
