World War ll Jewish sympathizer Corrie Ten Boom, “Memories are the key not to the past, but to the future”. The truth of this quote is displayed in both passages we read and real life. The odyssey is a story that was written hundreds of years ago and is still being read to this day. This is the story of a warrior who gets stranded countless times and pitted against the most unrelenting Gods and mythical beings. His journey begins after the battle of Troy to pass all sorts of involuntary and self imposed challenges. The second piece is an argument by Michael Griffin titled, “The Real Reasons We Explore Space”. Which is an article by a NASA administrator who believes that it is people's nature to be curious and to explore those things they are curious about. to become more knowledgeable and be well known for being at the top. In both pieces the writers use concrete examples. After his battle he describes what he has gained from this experience and his main focus on what he has gained is that “this fame has gone abroad to the sky’s rim”(372line9). This shows how what comes from far to the winning side is fame and this is what Odysseus was looking to gain on his journey. Later on in the story on his way home the witch Circe advises him to plug everyone on boards ears, as the song as the song of the sirens is irresistible to everyone but is he wishes to hear it then Circe's advice is that his “crew must only twist more line around you and keep their stroke up, till the singers fade”(392lines20-21). Odysseus wants to feel and be remembered for hearing the song of the sirens and still being alive. This portrays his nature to want the fame of doing the impossible and being remembered as a heroic
