“Frankenstein” Creator vs. Creature Mary Shelley was known as a poet during the romantic period in which she wrote her first novel Frankenstein. She was inspired to write Frankenstein after a conversation with her husband Percy Bysshe Shelley, and a common friend George Gordon Byron about writing a horror story.
