Canada vs Grenada

Canada, a large, popular and flourishing country compared to Grenada, a tiny, comfortable and stable country - how different could they be? To put the size into perspective, Grenada is barely the size of Toronto and Toronto has a larger population. While Grenada has some very clear occupational paths due to its close knit nature, Canada has many different occupational paths due to its diverse society. Although both countries educational systems are similar, the differences come from, how the young adults and families of each country choose to act in their post secondary education. There are not many exclusive holidays throughout the world, but each country has their own fair share of holidays that they share with neighbouring countries. For instance, Canada has Canada day and Victoria day, on the other hand Grenada has a few special holidays, “Grenada celebrates Indian Arrival Day, commemorating the arrival of the people from the Indian Subcontinent” (Customs of Grenada. 2018). It is unknown how important these holidays are to each citizen as each person has different values and views each holiday differently. However, a holiday is meant to be celebrated. Events like these shapes each country to be unique and different from each other. Just like how Canada has a separate Thanksgiving day from the USA, Grenada has different holidays for themselves to make them unique, “Emancipation Day, on the first Monday in August, celebrates the end of slavery” (Customs of Grenada. 2018). Along with each holiday, there is a story that represents the reason for the holiday. Every holiday/event has meaning, whether it is a tradition or a celebration, each and every holiday has some deep meaning for its citizens. To reiterate, Canada and Grenada are both unique to one another due to their different meaningful holidays. Holidays are a type of normative event in the literal sense that they happen normally or annually, however, there are proper normative events that relate to life such as dating and marriage. At some point in a Grenadian’s life they encounter that stage in life where they have a romantic encounter, “couples often live together before or instead of marriage, but when weddings do occur they are gala events. After a church ceremony, plenty of food, music, and dancing are offered to members of the entire village” (Customs of Grenada. 2018).
