The original story of Little Red Riding Hood is usually seen as one of sexual in nature in both stories and the movie we see Red as a young girl about to enter womanhood, with the red cloak symbolizing menstral blood, and the wolf representing those who would rob her of virginity. The movie version has many of the same themes, we have Valerie who is engaged to be married to Henry, but is in love with Peter. We see her becoming jealous when Peter's attention turns to another girl and she tempts him by offering herself to him. She is also given a red cloak as a engagment gift from her grandmother, but is insulted with it by Father Solomon, who calls it a harlot's cloak. The wolf also wants to take her away, but not as we read about in the story, but to make her into a wolf as well. …show more content…

The wolf then drowns when it tries to escape. We also see this in the movie adaption as well, Valerie's father is dressed up as the grandmother toward the end of the movie and while Peter is not a huntsman we see him coming to the rescue, they fill Valerie's father with stones and sew him shut as well and then sink his body to the bottom of the lake.
