Well I have seen a lot of film versions and no stage versions, and since I like to have fun I will be talking about the differences between "A Christmas Carol" and "A Muppet Christmas Carol". Now besides the Muppets I would say the movie is very accurate, from the costume designs, to the story. They even add direct quotes from the book sometimes, but with every adaptations some changes were made here and there. Of course they had to cut some material out to make the movie a certain time, and they had to make the content a little more enjoyable for their modern audiences so they made the dialog a bit more "with the times". They also added some more personal choices like adding musical numbers which I find is very fitting for the story.
Although The Wizard of Oz and The Wiz (Remake) both are musical films, they both have the same name of characters such as Dorothy Gale, The Scarecrow, The Tinman and The cowardly lion, However the films are different from each other. Yet in The Wizard of Oz there were American star actors such as Judy Garland, Ray Bolger and Jack Haley to start off the original version. On the other hand The Wiz had an African American cast such as Diana Ross, Michael Jackson from the Motown productions of the well-known Quincy Jones. How the Grinch Stole Christmas and A Christmas Carol are two very similar stories. In the stories A Christmas Carol and How The Grinch Stole Christmas, there are two characters who are a good example of this. A Christmas Carol is a story about a grumpy old man named Ebenezer Scrooge who only cares about money and needs to be taught a lesson. The story teaches a very good lesson, and modern authors still draw from it’s storyline. They also draw from the lessons it teaches while people read it.

New historicism is the theory that explains this and specifically focuses on just how the time period of a work changes and shows how an author's experiences come to life through a work. In Walt Disney’s, Cinderella, the time period glamorizes Cinderella’s journey to happiness while the Grimm Brothers version connects more with reality, teaching that media evolves to what society wants to see.
