To gain my admiration, a civil rights leader should be honest and open about their opinions without causing harm, effective in their ability to inspire others, and able to do what is right even when others doubt them. Even though Malcolm X expressed most these characteristics, I admire the works and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. because he was able to accomplish many things through peaceful protests and motivating words. Dr. King was able to promote equality for all races and showed kindness to everyone. Honesty is one of the characteristics a civil rights leader should have to gain my admiration. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X both had many people doubting them and not supporting them. Malcolm X was a black muslim which at the time was not favorable in society. Malcolm X wanted to have equality and be segregated from the white Americans. Martin Luther King Jr. faced many people that were violent and that did not agree with him many times, yet he did not act out aggressively or violently against those people. Dr. King Jr. wanted to accomplish equality in a peaceful way. He knew that the only way to get his point across was through peace. However, unlike Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X was sometimes frustrated with the people that disagreed with him such as other white Americans and he encouraged violence to get what he wanted. Although both men went against popular belief and continued their actions, In my opinion Dr. King Jr was able to do what was right and not acted violently against the white Americans even though they did not agree with him. Even when Martin Luther King Jr was arrested several times for marching and protesting, that did not stop him from continuing spread his beliefs and dreams for the
