Napoleon and Charles XII had some similar war strategy when it came to invading Russia. They also had some differences in which they used different techniques for beating Russia. Napoléon considered he outdid him at the end by using different war tactics than what Charles XII used to try and defeat Russia.
Charles XII was out numbered at first four to one. The thing is even though he was outnumbered he still had fought and won at the end charging in. The invasion of Russia Napoleon did not want to create the same mistakes as Charles XII so he read the book about it. He had expected a three week war with them and brought the largest army. It was about one hundred thousand men that returned and about five thousand had died from this invasion.Napoleon didn't think it mattered he was running scarce on food and supplies also it was getting cold. It became a loss of horses horrifying to feed oneself with quench thirst. They had to dig three feet under the ground just for water alone.The Russian had used the fabian strategy keep retreating and losing men. The resources had become very weaken. The thing was Napoleon couldn't control a very gigantic army it had to be like a small group or so and no matter what it was he always went back to where it all started.Napoleon had awaited for Alexander , but to come and find out it was a surprise waiting for him it was criminals that were let out by the government where orders were given to set the city on fire. Napoleon had waited and waited for Alexander he didn't show up so Napoleon decides that he just goes back.The winter was a very harsh condition for Napoleon his men would eat their frozen fingers also the skin off the horses.Finally Napoleon goes all the way back to france.
