Compare And Contrast Olan And The Virtuous Woman

In the story, The Good Earth the woman Olan is very similar to the “Virtuous Woman” from The Bible. They are very similar but in many ways, they are different, as you read, one can point out the differences and the similarities that both the woman have throughout the story and scripture. The Virtuous Woman is different from Olan because she helps others before she would do anything for herself. Olan is different from The Virtuous Woman because she steals and begs just to get food. Throughout the story and scripture Olan can easily be compared and contrasted to the Virtuous Woman. The differences with The Virtuous Woman are that she works for everything she has, helps other people before she would do anything for herself. Her clothes are silk and where purple (she maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple). Her husband praises her, ( her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her) which mean that he appreciates

Olan came from a home where she was a slave and then when she married Wang Lung and they don’t have much wealth. They had children and had to kill their second daughter because they had too many mouths to feed. Olan stole Jewels from a house everyone broke into. She brought them home and Wang Lung was very happy because they could finally move back to their homeland. Once Olan found the jewels they became wealthy. Olan’s husband has not treated her very well as their life together goes on, once they become wealthy, Wang Lung thinks he needs another wife and just leaves Olan. Olan and Wang Lung have a fool child because she did not get enough nutrients, and Olan wants to sell her as a slave, but Wang Lung ha a special connection to her and convinces Olan not to sell
