Larry Schweikart claims that George W. Bush was elected, not selected in the 200 election. Schweikart states that Bush did not steal votes for his own benefit. I disagree with Schweikart's argument, for numerous reasons. Al Gore and George W. Bush were tied for the win, and the tie-breaker state was Florida. Twenty-two of the states had a winning margin of ten percent over the other party. The margins of victory were so close in so many states that it would be impossible to prove who truly won. Many people influenced the outcome of the 2000 election, including the Supreme Court Justices. Gore respectfully won the popular vote, while Bush took home the glory.

The number of votes for each party in Florida were so close that recounts were demanded immediately. Many counties in the state of Florida faced mass confusion as the layout of the ballots for the election of 2000 left many voters confused and unsure of how they actually voted. Many elderly citizens didn't fully understand how the voting process worked, resulting in their ballots being marked with two or more candidates for president.
