The Industrial Revolution was significantly more impactful than the Age of Enlightenment; the Industrial Revolution completely restructured the way the world works, brought forth many inventions, and arguably destroyed our planet. The Industrial Revolution started in Great Britain, the name itself is a catchphrase to describe a period where change began to happen faster than ever. The Age of Enlightenment was the start of many western countries shifting their focus from god to science and rational thinking. There wasn't one single enlightenment movement but rather many different ones set off by one another, it was characterized by many different enlightenment thinkers such as John Locke and Rousseau.

During the Renaissance a popular belief was humanism, the idea that man is at the center. This ideology has its roots in Greek culture; the Greeks believed that man was the measure of everything and this was commonly seen in their art as well as their mythology. During the renaissance they adopted this thinking again and linked it to the belief that man was made in god's image. This shift in thinking that placed more importance on humans and the human mind is what paved the way for more radical ideas to take root. Soon enough innovative thinkers such as John Locke, Thomas Hobbes, and Rousseau began to become popular. With works such as the Leviathan and the idea that man is born with indisputable rights, the Age of Enlightenment reimagined issues such as equality, liberty, and individual rights . The ideas founded in the age of enlightenment are still evident in the way our government is structured
