The first form of slave resistance was daily acts of resistance. The slaves had a lot of methods to resist the institution of slavery such as feigning illness, playing dumb or slowing down work. They pretended being sick to avoid harsh working. Especially, women could able to feign illness more easily than men, because their slaveholders wanted them staying a well health to bear children, so the owner would have more new slaves. Women slaves were aware of this point, hence, they sometimes lied to the owner about pregnancy. They also used “sambo” character as a ruse to circumvent their owner.
