Another similarity that they had were taxation problems. Difference that they had was, religion. Those two similarities and one difference that these empires had were a big part of why they fell. Barbarian tribes had put up with the Western Roman Empire and the Han Dynasty long enough. The Western Roman empire had the best army, they were the strongest.
In both empires, corruption of government
In the Classical Era, two influential empires emerged, Han China and the Roman Empire. Both were order-focused societies, which greatly supported the rise of these empires. However, Han China was built off the foundation laid by previous empires and already had a governmental precedent. In the end, both empires eventually fell due to a number of shared factors, one being the overextension of their land causing expenses to rise and borders to become vulnerable.
They both made an effort to support the public with roads and infrastructure, that helped connect people to others within the empires as well as outside the empire. As they developed they began to form relationships
Empires throughout history have all had their own methods to political control. Some very similar others could not be any more different. Some of the great empires such as the Han and the Roman had very similar approaches to political control. Although both the Han and the Roman empires had similar forms of government both bureaucracies, both empires had many individual characteristics as well.
The great Western Roman Empire was considered to be one of the most powerful empires in human history. Rome became the most powerful state in the world by the first century BCE through a combination of military might, political acumen, and economic might. The empire was founded on blood of two brother’s who fought to the death to be crowned King, which lead to the first King of Rome who was named Romulus. By the third century BCE, all of Rome’s power and greatness began to diminish. Rome was falling.
During the Abbasid Caliphate, the Islamic Empire contributed greatly, offering many genius inventions and changes that altered the world in which they knew before. This period of flourishment, known now as 750-1258, was described as the ‘Jewel of the World’ and this said statement is most certainly true. These people enjoyed refinement and had a lavish way of life, even walking on paved roads. To put this to perspective, other parts of the world still walked on muddy alleyways at the time. The Muslim people were responsible for many influential accomplishments, offering the Islamic countries an immense amount of cultural advancements in areas such as knowledge and science, art, and economy.
Between 200 and 1200 the Mauryan and Byzantine empires both had political leaders and noble classes that expanded empires and spread their religions. The Mauryans developed an elaborate bureaucracy that collected taxes from farming and had networks of people to spy on its own people and enforce obedience. Unlike the Mauryans, the Byzantines created a system of feudalism and used Eastern Orthodoxy to legitimize the rulership of an emperor. A large imperial army consisting of war elephants and cavalry secured power for the Mauryans, while military effectiveness led to the rise of the Carolingian empire and Vikings helped with spread of trade.
The Eastern Empire was governed in Byzantium known as the Byzantine Empire and the Western Empire was governed in Rome known as the Holy Roman Empire. In Lost to the West, Lars develops two thesis statements throughout the book. The first thesis is how the Byzantine Empire saved western civilization from invaders and other tribes that try to take over Europe. In the book it says “ Western civilization, however, owes an incalculable debt to the scorned city on the Bosporus. For more than a millennium, its capital stood, the great bastion of the East protecting a nascent, chaotic Europe, as one after another would-be world conqueror foundered against its walls”
Throughout history, many impactful and memorable empires have arisen. Each empire has its own defining traits that lead to its success or demise. Some empires are very similar, while some posses many different traits. And although some can possess the same quality, their implication and utilization of that quality can create many gaps in the empire’s overall similarity to the other. Two powerful and historically important empires are the Ottoman empire, and the Mughal empire.
The Muslim world expanded tremendously during the 1300s to 1700s. The Ottoman Empire and Safavid Empire were two out of the three empires that had significant changes during these time. Though the Ottoman and Safavid Empire contrast on leaders and ways they rule, they similar on their declination and cultures. In the Ottoman Empire, multiples leaders contributed to the growth of the Empire. Ghazis were warriors for the Islam that followed strict Islamic rules.
The Roman Empire was an era that historians found very interesting as it showed the necessities a community needs and the problems that could lead to the collapse of one. It was a civilization that advanced and spread the major religion Christianity. So when the Roman empire divided, and the Western side started to crumble what could have happened to the Western side that caused it to fall apart? The primary causes for Rome’s fall are having corruption within the government, a poor economic state, and a weak military.

Even after the split, the east got more resources than the west, and they were more fortified. The west was left with not that much, and was always under attack. They eventually allowed Visigoths and other barbarians inside Rome, but abused them. They eventually attacked Rome from inside, which made things bad for Rome, and then even worse once other barbarian tribes attacked as well. They began to take over land from Rome in areas such as Spain and North Africa.
The Western Roman Empire fell in 476 AD. There were many factors that went into the fall of the Roman Empire. Economic problems they dealt with was one of the main reasons the Empire fell. Since the romans were not doing good Economically they could not fund the military in order to protect them, which also led to the fall of their military. Socio-Political problems were also a factor; there was a decline in interest to public affairs.
