The biggest war of the 20th century has come to a close, Xbox One vs Playstation Four. Since the very first Sony Playstation and Microsoft Xbox, there has been a great rivalry between the two. These systems divided gamers more than ever, many are as loyal to their favorite system as sports fanatics are to their favorite team. This feud has gone on too long and it is time to declare a winner. Despite having the same basic functionality, Playstation and Xbox have distinct traits that set them much further apart in the gaming world than the average person may think.

The controllers on the playstation are rechargeable, the battery lasts for several hours, dies, and then must be recharged. The controllers long battery life, combined with its charge and play capability, results in an uninterrupted gaming experience. Xbox on the other hand uses two double A batteries to power its controllers. Although this eliminates the use for more chords, it increases the likelihood of a controller dying mid game, puts more stress on the environment, and increases the operating cost for Xbox. Not only are the sources of power for the controllers very different, the power consumption by the consoles are significantly different. Over the course of a year, an Xbox will use roughly 270 kwh (Assuming it is in rest mode for the majority of the time) which is nearly nine times that of the Playstation’s 32 kwh ("Xbox One Vs. PS4”). The difference in power consumption results in substantially different environmental and operating cost for each console. While the Playstation costs under twenty dollars per year to keep running, the Xbox can cost nearly one hundred and fifty dollars ("Xbox One Vs. PS4”). The operating cost for each system should be strongly considered when deciding between consoles; over the consoles lifetime of about four years, the difference in operating cost adds up to more than the cost of a new console.
