Banned Book Essay: “King and King” To “protect” others in society, stories and novels have been taken off the shelves of libraries, schools, and bookstores due to possible controversial content, which minimizes the freedom of citizens. “King and King,” by Linda De Haan and Stern Nijland, is about a young prince searching for a soul mate, rejecting every princess. Like most fairy tales, this one has a happy ending, with the prince living happily ever after with the person he loves, another man. This book is banned because of its reference to homosexuality, which people in this society do not want to promote in a children’s book. Linda De Haan and Stern Nijland’s story, “King and King” should not be banned because, even though it refers to homosexuality, it still shows the real meaning of love in a happy marriage as marriage in the modern era is transforming, so should society’s definition. …show more content…
The prince decides to marry another prince. In the children’s story, “The two princes are known as King and King” (HaanNijland30). The book causes so much stir among our society today because of the idea of homosexuality. This idea in a children’s book makes “King and King” banned. The book was taken to court and the judge dismissed the book stating that “Diversity is a hallmark of our nation”. People forget the fact that this book shows the love between a marriage; they remember that the marriage is between two
