Courage, why is it important, and what is courage? Courage to me is the act of powering through tough situations in life, the power to make tough decisions, and another word for willpower. Courage is something that humans have. But why is it important to have a lot of it? Courage is of utmost importance because of its uniqueness to humans. It is the most prominent inert trait that humans possess. Allowing us to take on horrors beyond humanity and come out of it alive. It allows us to make the world's toughest decisions. Fiction such as ‘1917’ by Sam Mendez, and ‘The Two Generals’ by Scott Chandler, depict the subject of men with great courage and how that guides their choices. Lieutenant Law Chandler was a soldier in World War 2. Along with his best friend in the war and partner Jack Chrysler. Together they explore England, go through rigorous training in the army. All building up towards The Invasion Of Normandy Beach. Normandy did not start off well for Law. German soldiers were targeting Canadian bicycles, blowing up soldiers in front of Law. Despite this, the Lieutenant continues throughout The Normandy Invasion without any losses to himself. Making it past the “No Man’s Land” created by the Germans and winning over Normandy. Law is sent with his platoon to regroup and form a plan against an ambush. However, while holed up in a small square dirt pit with his platoon. A grenade was thrown at a German soldier. Killing everybody except Law himself. The man was left alone, the people he was sent to can be seen smoking cigarettes at the end and beginning. Eventually getting himself together enough to talk with the person who discovers him. The only word he has to say is “Cote..?” Before being handed Chrysler’s watch and wallet, a sign of death. During this high stress moment, Law’s silence speaks to a million shouts and screams. Despite all that has been put on him. Law still “Comes home to Marg.” Serving his family. Where it’s revealed that Law’s grandson was making the book. And that Law died peacefully long after the war …show more content…

I myself have been pushed by that immense pressure and fought it with pure courage. A few years ago, my sister had a seizure in front of me. It took a second for me to register, while my mom had already put her on a flat surface. She told me to grab the cat that was running everywhere and unlock the door for EMS. I felt that immense pressure that could cripple anyone. I was running when I couldn’t run, pushing when I couldn’t push. Every thought in my head was rejection and fear, but my body kept going from an unknown force within me telling me to go. It felt like going into the ocean and pushing against a giant wave, except I actually went through. Tannis’s fine now, but during that moment it came to mind that I would lose my sister. And it shook me to my core, it was my pure courage that kept me going, and prevented me from shutting down. To this day, I can’t find a better true example of me powering through immense stress than that moment. If it weren’t for that courage, a few seconds can make all the difference in an emergency
