Learning objective 8. 15 was Erikson’s Theory where we talked about different parenting styles. There are four different types: authoritarian, permissive neglectful, permissive indulgent, and authoritative. A parent who is an authoritarian type will never let the child have a say in anything or give them reasons for telling the “no”, it’s a “my way or the highway” type of parent. A permissive neglectful parent doesn’t care one slight bit about what the child does. Permissive indulgent is the parent that spoils their children and lets them get whatever they want and can do whatever they want. An authoritative parent sets rules out of love and lets their child know that they love them. Growing up, I went to a small school where my graduation class was 32 students. They were permissive neglectful. They let her do whatever she wanted and never knew where she was. There were many times in middle school where my mother had to bring her home after basketball practice because she lived thirty miles away and her parents didn’t feel like picking her up. At school I remember her always wearing dirty clothes and being tired all of the time. Sam never had a bed time or a curfew when we were older. There were many times where our parents wouldn’t let us hang out with her because they knew that she would do whatever she wanted and they didn’t want us doing that. I wanted to have a sleepover at her house, but I wasn’t allowed because nobody was home and I was 10 years old. My mom quickly took me right back to my house and explained that it wasn’t safe there for us to be on our own. She ended up getting pregnant at 17 and dropped out of high school our senior year. She moved in with her boyfriend before she was 18 and her parents allowed it. Now she is addicted to pills and has been in and out of jail. This is the result of a permissive neglectful parenting
