Comparing God, Science And Imagination By Wendell Berry

The human brain will never fail to fascinate me; our brain never fully shuts off, even

when we are sleeping our brains continue to work, these powerhouses are also very good at

imagination and the imitation of others. Wendell Berry brings important aspects of imagination

in his essay “God, Science and Imagination”. Berry talks about how imagination is key in

believing in science and/or religion and also claims that imagination helps us understand things

we cannot see or do not have factual proof. Berry believes imagination is “the power to make us

see, and to see, moreover, things that without it would be unseeable” (25). On the other hand,

If one passes down the religion the slight

variation could be seen as the many different branches of Christianity. I believe that religion is a

meme since it is passed down time after time. The passing down of religion over time causes

variation in religion. As I have mentioned previously before, without imagination we would not

have memes, and since religion is a meme without imagination there would be no religion.

After carefully looking at both readings I think that imagination can play a role in the

meme theory because both memes and imagination do not care if they are beneficial to the

overall cause and also, in order to become a meme a little imagination has to be used. On the

contrary, imagination is someone’s own personal unique idea, and without imagination there

would be no religion. Unless one personally believes that memes and imagination do not blend

together, almost every example proves that they do. Memes need imagination to become a meme
