Before the books of Joshua and Judges, the Lord promises Abraham that his descendants will multiply into a great nation and that they would possess all the land of Canaan (Authorized King James Version, Genesis 17:6-8). When reading the accounts in Joshua and Judges, it could lead the reader to believe that this promise is being fulfilled quickly in that the inhabitants of Canaan are all being ousted or wiped out (Tullock, & McEntire, 2012).
