Anthony Ibeziako, Professor Sue Hilton, ENGL 1113, April 12, 2017. A Look in Comparison and Contrasts. The essay was written by Bruce Catton; who compares the lives and characteristics of two Civil War leaders who put an end to the civil war in a meeting.
Since this was a timed essay I made a lot of mistakes, and it was also very difficult to revise
Justice William Brennan and Attorney General Edwin Meese held different views on the interpretation of the Constitution when it came to ruling in a case. Brennan held the view that judicial review should be done constitutionally, but to keep human dignity in mind when ruling in a case. Brennan makes his opinion on the matter known saying, “The Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights solemnly committed the United States to be a country where the dignity and rights of all persons were equal before all authority.” (Brennan). Unlike Brennan, Meese believed in sticking strictly to what the constitution stated for most matters.
This quote shows that after even more time to teach her, Jim was able to teach Ántonia more English words, which would allow her to communicate even better with others.
Luther was the pioneer of Reformation in the 16th century. Bonhoeffer was a German Lutheran pastor in the 20th century. I am a fan of Bonhoeffer because one year ago, I read one of his articles talking about the church’s attitude (as well as the Christian’ attitude) to Christian Jews. In the time under Hitler’s control, when almost all the people in Germany were brain-washed by the Nazi thinking and were full of hatred for the Jews, he asked the churches to accept those Christian Jews. It may be easy to love our neighbors, but it is hard to love our enemies.
Olaudah Equiano and Henry “Box” Brown Olaudah Equiano and Henry Brown were both inspiring men with a fascinating journey to freedom. They were enslaved and were both hoping to be free. Each had unique and intriguing stories that made their life exceptional (Carey; Walls). Henry Brown was born in Louisa County, Virginia, in 1815. He worked at a tobacco factory when he was fifteen as a slave.
Being in English 101 has impacted three different types of writing processes: drafting, revising, and editing. Before I started this class, I never made drafts; I only did pre-writes and the final copy of the essay. Now, I do the pre-writes, then type it and make the draft, and then fix any errors in it. Another writing process that has improved is revising because now instead of reading what I wrote myself, I let my friends, classmates, and teachers read it to see if they understand what I’m writing and if they see any errors. This makes my editing process easier because I know what mistakes I made.
A Homemade Education by Malcolm X, is an informative essay about the author Malcolm X dedication to further his education by himself. In this essay the author talks about how he was envious, how he turned that into motivation, and how he didn't let the fact that being imprisoned would keep him from pursing his goals. The essay " A Homemade Education" was very meaningful. The most meaningful thing to me about this essay was the dedication behind the authors purpose to further his education.
Two of the greatest players to ever step on a basketball court, Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. When thinking of greatness in the realm of basketball, these two definitely come to mind. They revolutionized the game and brought a standard to be met- Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. These two players were very similar in many ways. The moves they made were the exact same from the fade away jump shot, to the way they dunked the ball.
(Forward: The Prologue Preamble Perambulate) SERVING NO ESSAYS BEFORE THEIR TIME While demonstrably neurotic to care about wines and worry over colleges, before their time - both of which, during the writing of these initial drafts, are in my far-flung future - I can’t help myself. If I had a nickel for every time someone told me I had OCD, I’d have $39.25! However, the dispassionate diagnosis of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is not so singularly simple, for example, while some excitable clinicians propose I exhibit multiple symptoms of CDO, which is almost exactly like OCD, but in alphabetical order; other more melodramatic diagnosticians advocate for a verdict of Compulsive Disorder Extreme, which is indistinguishable from OCD & CDO, but sequential - just as it should be!
In my argument essay, I tried to voice a strong opinion, but fell short. Although our process analysis essays and cover letters haven’t been graded yet, I believe that I portrayed a more confident tone and style in those than I did in my argument essay. While writing those particular essays, I focused more on meeting the requirements sufficiently and voicing my opinion effectively. I believe that gaining this kind of insight on essay-writing is a reflection of improvement in my writing skills and overall
In “ Desiree’s Baby” and “ The Story of An Hour” written by Kate Chopin the audience analyzes the themes of love and marriage presented by the author in a unique style that is different from other authors during this time period. The similarities that the two short stories address include both of the women who happen to be young wives living under a male dominated culture as well as being under the control of their husbands whom they loved. However, the themes of the two stories are different. In “Desiree’s Baby” the theme portrays cruelty that is expressed through racial prejudice as well as being “blinded” by the ones you love, as compared to “ The Story of An Hour” which gives the reader a chance to explore the issue of forbidden joy in independence, and oppressiveness in marriage.
Tawney Nodland – As I look back over the past semester of English Composition, I realize that I have grown as a writer. Not onlyhas my understanding of the writing process changed, my whole attitude towards composition has too. This composition course has made a significant impact on my learning experience and has given me tools to take forward into my future educational and professional goals. Throughout this course, I have discovered things about myself as a writer and know some of my strengths and weaknesses. I now feel more prepared for future writing assignments, whether for work or for school.
Taking different English and writing classes has allowed me to write different types of papers. One paper that can be very challenging is the personal narrative. There are certain requirements that you must follow; each paper is different depending on who assigns it. When I am assigned to write this type of paper, usually it is dreadful to start and accomplish. This type of paper should just be removed from college writing courses.
My expectations coming into the course were high and remained high throughout the duration of the course. The essays I wrote in the class really challenged me to progress in my writing skills. The illustration essay really served as an example of what not to do when writing at a college level. My approach of the essay was really misunderstood and grammatically incorrect.
