Comparing Macbeth And The Social Network

Macbeth and The Social Network are two different contexts. Although written from at very different times, they still contain a bit of similarities and also differences. Macbeth and the main character in The Social Network, Mark Zuckerberg, both had desires and goals. Goals is an aim or a desired result, to achieve them is difficult as you must go through an obstacle or a loss. Mark and Macbeth both had goals of their own, but they had to sacrifice their friendships, morals, and happiness. Although Macbeth and Banquo were good friends early in the story, Macbeth’s goal to get the crown overtook himself and he had been forced to kill Banquo. Therefore, Macbeth realizes Banquo is now a threat to him. Macbeth decides to kill Banquo because he would be an obstacle to get his crown. Moreover, Macbeth sacrifices his friendship with Banquo because of his desire for king. Mark wants to achieve recognition and fame so he makes Facebook with Eduardo, however later in the movie Mark decides to throw Eduardo under the bus and take away his share and make it like he was the only person to make Facebook. Eduardo near the end says, “I was your only friend. You had one friend”. This statement shows that Mark and Eduardo had a very close friendship and Eduardo was Marks only friend. Mark Zuckerberg, however sacrifices his friendship with Eduardo for his goal by taking his share away. Macbeth was a person who was loyal, honest, and brave. When his wife and the witches easily manipulated him to murder Duncan, he started to put his loyalty, honesty and bravery before him causing him to prioritize ambition. Moreover, he lost his morality, his normal behaviour, beliefs that tell him what is acceptable to do and what not and started to be more ambitious and desired more power, he just did whatever it took to get to his goal of getting the crown, he did not look at consequences, nor did he think before he
