Human connected to this machine, experience living in a parallel world where nothing is real, but all is what makes them think the machine and thus remain trapped in deception. For this Morfeo (the leader) decided to form an army of soldiers who must connect to the Matrix and into the virtual world looking for all humans who believe it real, and will have to convince them that what they are experiencing is not real but a fantasy world created by the machine. It's wrong because it's not the real world, it's a machine who wants to make people think that's real. Matrix is a lie created by the machines, they are the ones who have made every effort to deceive mankind. In Matrix, whatever offline, including Neo, has been through a series of trainings initiation taking place software created for this purpose. The aim of these programs is to make the newcomer get used to thinking that what you see is not real and, if aware of it, may subvert the laws of physics and perform miracles. The first time you visit the Oracle bucket child teaches that nothing is real.

I mean, I knew there was something, but not sure what it was. In the allegory, the men chained in the dark ignore what is happening both inside and outside the cave.
