During the time of the Italian Renaissance, artists such as Michelangelo and Raphael were really famous for their paintings that caught the viewers’ attention. Their paintings caught the attention because of the way it seemed to be real from their dimension. Raphael painted ‘The School of Athens’ from 1509 to 1511. From this day, it is remembered for its perfection and the culture around its time. The four walls represents the study of the world and God which is known as the “Four Branches of Human Knowledge” that has to do with philosophy, theology, poetry and jurisprudence. In the middle of the painting you can see two philosophers that represents Plato and Aristotle. Their gestures indicate the aspects of their philosophies; Plato has his own Theory of Forms while Aristotle has his views in certain life. The left side of the painting, it is concerned with issues of the ideal. The philosopher is known as Pythagoras, who discovered laws of harmony in music, in mathematics. From the right side is Euclid, as he is drawing geometric diagrams that we use today in geometry. Behind are two sculptures known as Apollo, God of Sun, and Athena, God of War. …show more content…

The ceiling decorations are the nine scenes from the Book of Genesis, which Michelangelo tells the story of The Creation of the Heavens and Earth; followed by The Creation of Adam and Eve and the Expulsion from the Garden of Eden and finally the story of Noah and the Great Flood.
