Morality is defined as “beliefs about what right behavior is and what wrong behavior is”. (morality) As you grow and start to figure out what is right and wrong there are many things that can help to influence your decision. A person’s religion or background can help to shape a person morality and social responsibility. Aristotle believed that person should live their life based on ideals. Mill’s believed that we should live by the Greatest Happiness Principle, we should maximize our happiness. Kant’s theory on morality emphasized the ends and not just the motive behind it.

Theories of Morality Aristotle sated that, “A virtuous agent is one who acts virtuously, that is, one who has and exercises the virtues. A virtue is a character trait a human being needs to flourish or live well.” (The Theory of Moral Virtue by Aristotle) This means that in order for us to live a good life and be successful we must have morals or virtue. He also believed that understanding virtue can help us to perceive what is right and wrong, and help us make the right decision. As an African American, religion plays a very big part in my culture. Living our lives according to the bible and making sure that you are doing what is right. As a result, I do live my life according to what is best for not only me but those around me as well. While there are people who may help others because what they can receive out of it, but I was raised that if you are helping someone than the only motive you should have is helping someone in need. I was also taught growing up that I should be careful of my decisions because of how it could affect those around me. We should do what we can to help and build one another up and not stop them from doing
